We had already walked hills planting trees, plus it was cold and I had computer work to catch up on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-l2vohZA59q\" class=\"wp-block-nectar-blocks-text nectar-blocks-text nectar-font-h4\">I knew from past experience that I would feel much better after 30 minutes of heavy gym work. I did eventually go (after much inner dialogue) and I did feel better \u2014 not just refreshed, but more energised, clear-headed and better prepared than I would have otherwise been to tackle the work load ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-dejh5T5cBT\" class=\"wp-block-nectar-blocks-text nectar-blocks-text\">I had to consciously reframe my exercise session thinking of it as a positive, restorative activity, therefore making it more likely that I would continue this daily habit \u2013 even though I often didn\u2019t feel like doing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-xBw0jJdxAj\" class=\"wp-block-nectar-blocks-text nectar-blocks-text\">Many studies show that simply advocating physical activity to lose weight and be healthier won\u2019t keep a busy business person on track for any length of time. The neuroscience of pain\/reward has shown that it is the immediate paybacks of feeling better; having more energy, a better mood and less stress that will keep us motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-NIwUbE8JXH\" class=\"wp-block-nectar-blocks-text nectar-blocks-text\">Many people are unconscious deflectors \u2013 devoting all their nurturing efforts and energies on others \u2013 but when we fail to prioritize self-care because we are too busy, our energy is not replenished and our health is not revitalised. Instead, we end up exhausted and mentally fatigued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-V5QEcFv6R1\" class=\"wp-block-nectar-blocks-text nectar-blocks-text\">Our ability to \u2018be there\u2019 for loved ones, or to be on the top of our professional game, is compromised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-ryCLD8UrrA\" class=\"wp-block-nectar-blocks-text nectar-blocks-text\">People who make physical activity a priority don\u2019t necessarily have more time, motivation or passion than anybody else. They will, however, book in a slot for exercise because they know it enhances how they feel, their energy, their performance and the quality of their work-life balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nectar-blocks-image nectar-blocks-image\" id=\"block-OnmA76ftuY\"><div class=\"nectar-blocks-image__inner\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\" class=\"wp-image-657\" src=\"https:\/\/skymediatest.co.nz\/performancehealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/sushil-ghimire-eFx1KZhaSvo-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"sushil-ghimire-eFx1KZhaSvo-unsplash\" srcset=\"https:\/\/skymediatest.co.nz\/performancehealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/sushil-ghimire-eFx1KZhaSvo-unsplash.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/skymediatest.co.nz\/performancehealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/sushil-ghimire-eFx1KZhaSvo-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/skymediatest.co.nz\/performancehealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/sushil-ghimire-eFx1KZhaSvo-unsplash-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/skymediatest.co.nz\/performancehealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/sushil-ghimire-eFx1KZhaSvo-unsplash-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/skymediatest.co.nz\/performancehealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/sushil-ghimire-eFx1KZhaSvo-unsplash-1536x1024.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-MkKQ76Q7Kk\" class=\"wp-block-nectar-blocks-text nectar-blocks-text\">In Dr. Segar\u2019s book \u201cNo Sweat\u201d she writes about The Paradox of Self-care;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-lMAWWHGnwm\" class=\"wp-block-nectar-blocks-text nectar-blocks-text\">\u201cThe more energy you give to caring for yourself, the more energy you have for everything else. View physical activity as a power source for everything else you want to accomplish.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-t2B3nnyT5x\" class=\"wp-block-nectar-blocks-text nectar-blocks-text\">\u201cConsistency always trumps Quantity!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-pzmysm2s7i\" class=\"wp-block-nectar-blocks-text nectar-blocks-text\">When establishing a fitness habit, remember that consistency is the key. Next is acknowledging challenges \u2013 always have a backup activity you can do.
